Checking yourself is an intimate thing. It's personal. Checking yourself is loving yourself. Doing a monthly breast self-check allows you to truly get to know your body and build a positive relationship with your breasts.

We recently had the opportunity to do a photo shoot with the incredible photographer, Lindsey Byrnes. We got to showcase 3 women, in intimate, home settings. These women shared these moments with us; moments showcasing self-love and self-care, and our relationships with our bodies.

We are so grateful to get to know these inspiring individuals and to share not only their thoughts on this personal topic, but also on bodies, gender, and the world.

Meet one of those individuals, Isabel Hendrix. Isabel is a plus-size model and self-love advocate. She is an incredibly sweet, inspiring and gorgeous, inside and out. She is super communicative on her platform, taking the time to lift others up and spread all the body positivity and self-love! Get to know more about Isabel below!

If you were an animal, what animal would you be?

A cat.

When was the last time you laughed?

Today. My cat tried to jump on the windowsill while I was opening it and failed miserably. She is very clumsy.

How has social media impacted you and your work?

It makes my work possible! I couldn't model, sell vintage clothing, or have most of the opportunities in my life if not for social media!

What is one thing you would change about the world right now?

There are soooo many things, it's impossible for me to choose just one!! If I had to change only one thing, I think it would be to stop body shaming and fatphobia and the misconception that weight is the sole indicator of health.

When you think of the future, what do you see?

I hope for a world where women can exist in the world without having to fear harassment or violence from men.

When you think of women globally, what do you think of?

I think of women from diverse cultural, racial, and gender experiences. I don't think there's one way to experience womanhood and all women sharing their experiences makes the world a better place.

What is something you do for yourself? How do you define self-care?

For me, self-care varies day by day. Some days I'll take a bath. Other days I'll cut back on what I need to get done if I'm feeling really stressed out. I listen to my body and how I'm feeling mentally and go from there!

Do you feel like you have a relationship with your boobs? If so, how is it? If not, why not?

I guess I do since they're always with me! Sometimes they're frustrating - they can feel like they get in the way! - but for the most part, I like them! Part of self-love for me is loving my whole body.

We hope to have inspired you the way you inspire us. Have you started checking yourself since getting to know Keep A Breast?

I do!

Tell us more about being a self-love advocate.

Being a self-love advocate means encouraging others to love themselves for who they are and not trying to change yourself to meet other people's standards. It's telling people "You're beautiful and perfect the way you are" because I don't think we hear that enough!

Consider this a free space. Say whatever you want/think/feel.

I just want to remind trans and nonbinary folks who don't identify as women but have breasts that you should check yourself, too! Download our Check Yourself! app on the Apple App Store or Google Play to learn to do a breast self-check & set up an automatic monthly reminder. Early detection is the key.
