BREAST CAST GALLERIES

ART IS AT OUR CORE

Over a decade ago, KAB’s founders, then involved in their own arts organization, rallied to support a friend with breast cancer. They developed an idea to express the human experience of breast cancer by reimagining the traditional canvas as a participatory sculpture. After some experimentation and partnerships with the right people, they developed and tested a technique for capturing chests in a plaster. The result was a white cast that was then customized by artists. The success of these chest casts as conversation starters, awareness builders and fundraising tools ultimately leading us to what is now the non-profit The Keep A Breast Foundation.

BREAST CAST GALLERIES

Through art, we can uniquely communicate and express deep, complex concepts and emotions. The Keep A Breast Foundation Chest Cast™ is the original and iconic image of Keep A Breast.  KAB founder, Shaney jo Darden was inspired by Frida Kahlo to make these casts on individuals symbolizing the strength, resilience, and beauty in every person, no matter shape or size.

Since our inception, Shaney jo has cast hundreds of individuals including survivors, athletes, musicians, and artists. These casts have been painted by some of the worlds most incredible and influential artists, such as Shepard Fairey and Dalek, and have found their way into homes, museums, galleries, and private collections around the globe. Each cast tells a unique story.
