6 REASONS TO DO BREAST SELF-CHECKS WITH THE KAB APP

If you want to embrace healthier breast habits - you’re in the right place! Whether you’ve never done a breast self check or you’re looking for more support, our newly updated (free!) Keep A Breast App is created to make navigating your breast health a little easier - and more accessible.

Beyond providing tutorials of how to do a breast self check and automatic monthly reminders to do them - the Keep A Breast App also connects you with telehealth professionals in case you feel something out of your “normal” and so much more (keep reading!). The goal is to empower you to be your own best health advocate.

BUT FIRST, HERE’S A LITTLE REFRESHER ON WHY
BREAST SELF-CHECKS ARE SO IMPORTANT!

KNOW YOUR “NORMAL”

As you probably know, we at Keep A Breast are all about self-checks! By checking yourself at the same time, once a month, you establish a conscious routine and relationship with your body. That way, if something changes - you know about it!

While the best time to check yourself is about a week after your period, if you don’t menstruate - pick any day. It is important to check yourself at this time each month so that you're familiar with how you typically feel, and thus can easily detect any changes or abnormalities. Knowing what is “normal” for your body could potentially save your life!

IT’S A MINDFUL, HEALTHY PRACTICE

Healthy practices are so important to incorporate into your daily life. Whether it be using a BB cream with SPF, drinking lots of water, exercising regularly, or checking yourself, incorporating practices like this assist you in living the healthiest life you can.

YOU ARE NEVER “TOO YOUNG” FOR BREAST CANCER

About 300,000 women are estimated to be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. in 2021. And approximately 12,000 of those diagnosed are under the age of 40.

LOVE YOUR BOOBIES!

The idea of self checks can be scary. It’s one of the many reasons we wanted to shift the mentality of “self breast exams” to “self breast checks.” So instead of thinking of the process as “looking for cancer” - check yourself from a place of love and interest. You’re simply getting to know your body and caring for it.

Remember, your body is beautiful and your breasts are perfect just as they are.

WHAT’S NEW ABOUT THE KEEP A BREAST APP

1. STEP-BY-STEP SELF-CHECK TUTORIAL (featuring animated gifs!)

We realize it can be intimidating to do a self-check, especially when you don’t know where to touch and what exactly to look out for. Our app is here for you!

You’ll get step-by-step directions - from what to look at and where to touch (armpits included!). Plus, the guide is illustrated with colorful animated gifs to make it more of an interactive “self-care” moment. 💗

And don’t worry about setting your own self check reminder. Our app is designed to remind you each month! (Just remember to allow the app to send you notifications.)

2. OPTION TO CONNECT DIRECTLY WITH TELEHEALTH PROFESSIONALS

For the first time(!!!), a breast self-check app now connects users who think they may have discovered something during their check with a telehealth medical professional. This means you’ll have direct, instantaneous support in case you find something that is not normal to your self-check.

We’re so proud to offer this service through our partnership with Carbon Health, a technology-enabled healthcare provider that combines smart technology with inviting clinics and a robust virtual offering.

3. IN-APP SHARING FEATURE

With a push of a button, the Keep A Breast app can be shared through Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Text, and Mail. Spread the word to friends, co-workers, family members, neighbors, and anyone you want to help embrace healthy breast habits.

If you have friends who speak Spanish or French, our app is also available in those two languages.

6. SAVED JOURNAL OF PAST SELF-CHECKS

If you found something abnormal during a check, it will be saved in your personal profile. That way, it will be easily accessible for you to reference in the future or at your next doctor’s appointment.
