FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Women’s Surf Competition Benefits Breast Cancer Awareness June 12, 2006, San Diego, CA – When two amazing concepts are paired with the crystal ocean off the sands of Southern France, the execution is nothing short of incredible. For the third year in a row, the Keep A Breast Foundation, a one-of-a-kind cancer research organization, and esteemed surfing company, Roxy, have merged forces for the Roxy Jam surf competition to be held in Biarriz, France from July 3-9. Just as the exotic locale would suggest, women surfers from every angle of the world will fuse at this meeting point in hopes of gaining recognition as the world’s first ever women’s longboard champion. The incorporation of art, fashion, culture and health make Roxy Jam a relaxed atmosphere of competitive spirit topped with organic entertainment. Not only does this event feature aquatic dance at its finest, it incorporates the awareness of breast cancer through the Keep A Breast Foundation’s dazzling display of raw female beauty. Various surfers and well-known personalities volunteer their femininity for re-creation and charity as their bare chests are replicated as plaster busts. These impressions are then used as blank canvases for local and international artists to adorn with their creative flair. This year’s participants include castees Lisa Anderson, Kassia Meador, Tina Birbaum, Adelina Taylor, Caroline Sarrann and artists Matt Watkins, Kelsey Brookes, Vicky Newman, Blinky, Will Barras and many others. The original pieces will be on display at the competition, and the top designs will then be auctioned off at a private gala on July 8. All proceeds go to breast cancer research and prevention. At Roxy Jam 2005, Lavender Trust, a UK-based charity, received more than 18,000 pounds from the auction of 22 casts. Stephanie Barneix, a Roxy girl and breast cancer survivor, will be at the Hotel Radisson on Saturday, July 8 at 7 pm to share her battle with chemotherapy sessions and life in remission. To kick off the live auction, artist Baptiste Deseaux will perform his original song he wrote for Keep A Breast, inspired by his mother’s battle with breast cancer. “It’s an ideal way to reach out to young people and make them understand the importance of preventing cancer, yet in a fun and original way,” said Maritxu Darrigrand, Marketing Director at Roxy. By informing women of all ages, especially younger females, to be proactive in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Roxy and Keep A Breast fight together with an original display of artistic awareness.
