Keep A Breast Fundraising Benefit to Be Held at Roxy Jam UK
Top female surfers immortalized in plaster to support breast cancer research, treatment and prevention—

May 01, 2005, San Diego, CA —Keep A Breast, a nonprofit breast cancer awareness campaign unlike any other, today announced it will be partnering with Roxy, the leader in women’s surfing and boardriding lifestyle, on a fundraising benefit that will be held during Roxy Jam UK on May 21 st - May 27 in Perranporth, Cornwall.

The event will feature an exhibition of plaster casts of some of the world’s top female surfers, including Samantha Cornish, Megan Abubo, Layne Beachley, and Rochelle Ballard. Their casts will be decorated by local, national and international artists and designers and auctioned at the event and online with proceeds going to the UK-based charity The Lavender Trust. These one-of-a-kind pieces of art showcase the beauty and strength of the female form.

Featured artists participating in Keep A Breast at Roxy Jam UK include Jim Avignon, Loomit, Lucy Mc Laughlan, Mr Jago, Will Barras, Ben de Lisi, Betty Jackson and Kyri.

“Breast cancer is becoming more and more prevalent, so it’s important to keep reminding people that it can happen to anyone,” said Lucy Mc Laughlan. “Keep A Breast approaches young people in a way that’s not scary or intimidating, but successful and fun.”

At Roxy Pro Hawaii in November 2004, over $22,000 was raised for the Kapiolani Breast Center and the Rell Sunn Fund. Veronica Kay’s torso painted by Roxy artist Alessandra Cabral was the top-selling cast. The two organizations also partnered for the inaugural Keep A Breast event at Roxy Surf Jam France last year.

“Our relationship with Roxy and the Quiksilver Foundation continues to grow stronger with each international event. They have been instrumental in helping us raise consciousness about these issues in a way that is relevant and inspiring to today’s youth,” said Shaney Jo Darden, founder of Keep A Breast. “It also enables us to support grassroots organizations, like The Lavender Trust, that are making significant strides towards combating breast cancer.”

About The Keep A Breast Foundation:

The Keep A Breast Foundation is a nonprofit breast cancer awareness organization that creates one-of-a-kind plaster casts of the female torso, which are customized by fine artists and auctioned to raise funds for breast cancer research, treatment and support programs. Combining sculpture, philanthropy, and symbolic artistry, Keep A Breast’s goal is to bring a fresh perspective to this important cause in a way that is relevant and inspiring to today’s youth. This original approach to raising awareness and funding for breast cancer was founded by Shaney Jo Darden and Mona Mukherjea-Gherig in 2000. Keep A Breast has traveled across the globe and staged events in France, Germany, New York, San Francisco, Hawaii, and more. Thousands of dollars have been raised on behalf of Young Survival Coalition, Susan G. Koman Foundation, The Breast Cancer Fund, Asha-Killgallen Fund, Kapi'olani Breast Center, and Europadonna.
