MODART ANNOUNCES KEEP A BREAST EVENT IN PHOENIX
-Art benefit/ auction will support leading breast cancer organizations- |
| July 24, 2004—Modart today announced its unique “Keep A Breast” event will be coming to Phoenix, Arizona during October 2004, Breast Cancer awareness month. Keep A Breast has created a unique perspective on the battle against breast cancer by showcasing the beauty and strength within the female form, commissioning talented fine artists to create plaster casts of women’s torsos and auctioning them off. The reception and silent auction will be held on October 9th at the Phoenix Art Museum. Prior to the auction, the Robert Roman Gallery will host a "sneak peek" of a select number of casts - Sept. 30th through Oct. 8th. Proceeds will benefit the Arizona Institute for Breast Health and the Young Survival Coalition.
This very special event will feature many of Arizona’s own nationally acclaimed and local artists, including: Benny Gonzales, Rachel Bess, Robert Anderson, William Barnhart, Janet de Berge Lange, Jo-Ann Lowney, John Armstrong, Robert Miley, Claudia Bernardi, Joel Coplin, Arthur Secunda, Beatrice Moore, Rudy Fernandez, John Battenberg and Shahrokh Rezvani.
“Keep A Breast” highlights the defeatable nature of breast cancer’s epidemic-like presence by showcasing the beauty and strength within the female form. The breast casts that are created on women of all shapes and then customized by artists of all types, are physical representations of a simple truth -- while breast cancer attacks all women without prejudice, it is also the powerful individual present in all women that will conquer it. Modart has already had the privilege to cast a number of Phoenix volunteers, including Mrs. Moo, the longest survivor of breast cancer in Arizona and Patti Hannon, actress starring in Late Nite Catechism.
Carol Martori, 36, filmmaker and Phoenician, has participated in many Modart events in the past five years and has been instrumental in bringing Keep A Breast to Arizona:
“Keep A Breast is an event that seeks to educate, inform and inspire every person who is involved. It shows the public the realities of this disease, it's impact on the community, and the unexpected gifts that can emerge out of trying events. In 1999 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Waves of shock and disbelief struck our whole family. Today my mom is healthy, vibrant and cancer free. We count our blessings every day for the care and support she had from so many people throughout the process. I always wanted to give back in some way to repay the good fortune we received.“
Work with Modart to "Keep A Breast" of the problem, starting now. Please forward this press release to everyone with related interests and contact Keep A Breast directly for more information.
