Keep A Breast wraps up the Country Throw Down

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Keep A Breast was so thankful to be on the Country Throw Down. We had so many amazing new fans come by the tent and pick up a Check Your Self! card and information on breast health and cancer prevention. Fans and band members alike participated in the Keep A Breast “This is My Story” and “Imagine If” Campaigns and got their hands on I Love Boobies merchandise with 100% donations going towards KAB’s education and prevention programs! We even had bands buying bunches of bracelets to send out to their fans and talk about us on stage. We are so so thankful these artists have donated their time to help us educate today’s youth through their music, art and inspiration.

We want to throw a KAB event because we feel that it’s a great way to help. We have had our own personal experiences with breast cancer and know that it’s no joke. We know that youth take the subject lightly too, until they are hit with it, it’s a serious matter, and the more you know about it the better. We feel that Keep-A-Breast being targeted to youth is great, and being in that young generation, we feel connected to it. And they way we are helping is something like we have never participated in before. Many fundraisers are simple, or boring for youth, but we are totally involved in this it’s all we talk about, we tell every one what we want to do with it and they’re all for it. We participate in our towns relay for life, which has been running for two years now, we see how rewarding it is, and with Keep-A-Breast we can get involved and do something on our own, especially as music lovers. We simply just want to help and this is a great way to do it! Carina, Emily, Sam, Juliana and Katie

If you are unable to attend the event, but you would still like to donate to the cause, please visit our FirstGiving Fundraising page to donate to this event!

“I was overwhelmed! it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.”

Monday, June 7th, 2010

The KAB Treasured Chest Program is making a huge IMPACT by supporting women recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. KAB recently had the opportunity to cast at the AMAZING Bergamot Spa in Encinitas. Thanks to Bergamot these women received FREE pampering spa treatments in a nurturing atmosphere.

Many of our castees had wonderful things to say about the experience and we are so thankful to them for letting us be a part of their journey. Susan whom had just finished chemotherapy and says, I was overwhelmed! it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.”

Meeting my fellow breast cancer sisters and each of us exchanging our cancer battles to having a Facial and experiencing the new Reconnective Healing treatment and best of all was having my torso casted.  I can honestly say this has been one of the most remarkable experiences I’ve had since being diagnosed with breast cancer!”Jeannette

Carrie who was casted after recently had surgery spoke about the treasured chest program – “kindness, compassion and heartfelt desire to educate others through these casts will continue to resonate within. The pampering at Bergamot Spa after my casting was a sublimely blissful way to reflect upon my journey and peacefully contemplate my overwhelming gratitude for my health and experience with breast cancer”!

Thank you to all the Treasured Chest participants! You continue to inspire us! Thank you to Bergamot Spa for the heavenly location, Francine O Gonzalez for documenting the day with photos, and the Quiksilver Foundation for proudly supporting this KAB program! If you know someone who would be a perfect fit for this program or for more info contact: missnixon@keep-a-breast.org.

Keep A Breast wants help going from Pink to Green

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

As Keep A Breast grows we want to stay true to our word of living non-toxic, we are doing everything we can to turn our foundation completely GREEN from inside and out! We are evaluating everything we do from shipping, touring, product production and even what we eat at lunch we want to be a role model for other foundations to become sustainable and non-toxic.

The KAB Non Toxic Revolution’s aim is to inform and educate young people about the dangers of toxic chemicals (in our environment and food supply) and their link to breast cancer initiation. NTR’s aim is to inspire a focus on prevention as a means to maintain long-term health and well-being. As part of this Non Toxic Revolution we also provide alternative choices so that young people everywhere can make smart choices. And we couldnt tell you to do something that we haven’t tried ourselves! So follow us in this six month journey as we turn KAB from Pink to Green by this October!

Notice in the video we are driving to work… not very green right! make sure to stay tuned for our next video to see what changes we have made!

Send us your tips and idea’s and stories on how you are greening your community.

The Safe Chemicals Act!

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

The President’s Cancer Panel (PCP) recently adopted a position on environmental causes of cancer that we couldn’t be more excited about. The Safe Chemicals Act will reform policy of a Act written in 1976 requiring chemical manufacturers to prove that their products are safe before they reach our shelves.

We are constantly baffled that this is not already a law – The Environmental Protection Agency could not use even use the Act in its current state to ban asbestos! Since its enactment, tens of thousands of untested chemicals have come into use, and more appear daily. Recent studies show that babies are being born already polluted with nearly 300 industrial chemicals, some even linked to cancer!

The April 2010 report issued by the PCP recommends taking a precautionary approach to environmental contaminants and studying vulnerable populations (including low-income communities) that more often reside in highly polluted areas. It also calls for a more effective system to ensure that chemicals are proven safe before they are put on the market.

Please join us in supporting the Environmental Working Group by signing their online petition to ask your Senators to co-sponsor the Safe Chemicals Act!
