Baby Doe raises $800 for KAB!
Wednesday, February 25th, 2009here is an email from Baby Doe about her event she threw for KAB last Thursday!! Thanks ladies!!
It was a rainy Thursday night but Keep A Breast was the star at the Shindig 69 in San Francisco on February 12th. This event celebrated the female form with over 20 go go dancers on stage from The Devil-Ettes and burlesque cuties Kiki Bomb, Kellita, Honey Lawless and Kitten on the Keys. This was the first time The Devil-Ettes and Keep A Breast partnered up for an event and it was a huge success! The audience flipped over the KAB stickers and goody bags and boobie trivia throughout the night. The entertainment varied and was mostly inspired by the theme of 1969… The Cement Gardens rocked it and the dance floor stayed packed thanks to DJs Otto, Cali Kid and Sergio spinning vintage vinyl. We look forward to working with Keep A Breast in the future, at Tiki Oasis in San Diego this August.

Nikki takes a stand against censorship
Tuesday, February 24th, 2009Today we received a letter from Ginger Thew the proud mom of Nikki Raccio of Oconomowoc High School. We hear stories like this all the time, and are so proud of kids that take a stand against censorship and educate people on our mission! You have a story? Write it in the comments!
“Just to drop a line to your org. My daughter wore your shirt that she picked up at Warped-tour this last summer to school today. She was ordered to take it off or cover up with a sweatshirt by the High School (public) librarians. She refused & instead scotch-taped a gum wrapper, foil, over the word “boob” on her I (heart) boobies shirt. This caused even more fellow students to stop her & ask her about her shirt & why it was censored. The shine from the foil helped a lot. Well, as any 17 year old would, she got up on a soap box & spread the word about your website to everyone who would listen. Breast cancer is serious, & the word ‘boobies’ helps ease the sadness of the disease, but sheds a light on the serious manner with a good sense of humor. Within an hour of her censoring her t-shirt to appease the librarians, she was sent to the administrators. She argued her point of wearing the t-shirt to the administrators & they finally gave in & allowed her to wear her shirt … she did, with pride.”

ps. if you are interested in throwing your own show, email mfa@keep-a-breast.org for more info.
Hey Erica!
The show Sunday night was incredible.
I’m only seventeen and the two other girls who helped put this event together, Kelly and Sam, are sixteen and eighteen; we had never done anything like this before.
We were all really nervous, but tons of people came out and supported the cause.
We had a raffle with sixteen baskets donated from friends and local businesses. From the raffles alone, we raised over three hundred dollars. We also had lots of free food, cake, and chocolate ![]()
The first band, Bear Number 141, brought in a huge crowd and got them excited for the rest of the show.
The second act, My Favorite Episode, was an acoustic set performed by a wonderfully talented young man named Colin. Everyone loved him!
Tough Guys Take Over, The Skylife, and Desoto Jones were real crowd pleasers; they had awesome stage presence and played great music.
After the last band, Desoto Jones, finished their set, a woman came up to me and told me how much this event meant to her.
She said that she loved the Keep a Breast Foundation, especially since her mother had breast cancer. She even donated twenty more dollars! This really touched me; it showed that I really can make an impact, even if it is just one person at a time.
At the end of the night, the owners of the venue admitted to me that this was one of the best benefits they had ever seen.
We raised over $2,320 for the foundation.
Kelly, Sam, and I would like to thank you SO much for helping us put this event together. It was so much more than we expected. We feel like we have actually made a difference, and it feels great.
We can’t wait to do it again!
Thanks again!!

The Bachelor casts raise over $3500!
Thursday, February 12th, 2009
As you remember, on a recent episode of ABC’s The Bachelor, the contestants each made a breast cast for Keep a Breast. While the exposure (of all sorts) was fabulous in itself, the casts just sold at auction for $3,500! Special congratulations are in order for Jillian Harris; her cast sold for over $1,000. The proceeds all going to help us raise awareness for Breast Cancer.
Thanks again to the cast and crew for making this such a successful event!
Keep A Breast is for Valentines Day
Thursday, February 12th, 2009Sure it’s a commercialized holiday manufactured by The Man, but in the end, so what? No one wants to stuck gift-less on the 14th. And guys, seriously, giving a little on Valentine’s Day can still get you far.
But this year, don’t approach the holiday with purely selfish intentions; try to do something nice for the world around you, and see if that love doesn’t come right back around.
Here are a few suggestions from the girls at Keep-A-Breast on how to celebrate the real love hiding beneath the hoopla.
1. Of course, we’d first like to suggest you buy a “Keep a Breast is for Lovers” t-shirt. Not only do you get to use the word “love” without actually saying “I love you,” but you get to support breast cancer awareness.
If you’re not even into using the categorization of “lovers,” then just get a shirt that says “I <3 boobies.” This gift not only shows that you “love” her boobs, but you love them so much, you are investing in their future health. She’ll know you’re sincere.
2. Don’t get a bouquet of flowers. They’re all pretty at first but then they die in a week and take lots of water for them to even last that long. Plus, flowers, seriously, that’s all you could come up with?
Why not take that floral sentiment, go to your local nursery, and get a potted succulent plant instead. It doesn’t sound romantic, but when you think about it, it is: There’s no withering bouquet stems, no hints about replenishing the vase; it’s sturdy, stable, like a rock. Some of them are even heart shaped. A succulent requires no maintenance and very little water, so there’s no need to flip about killing the “love fern.” It can be ignored for weeks and still won’t die. You don’t have to work at it, it just lives. Now isn’t that love? If you are here in San Diego – go to the SWIV gallery – they have beautiful ones in terrariums.
3. Do something nice for your body at The Ocean Day Spa in Carlsbad, CA. Here, the spa experience is as much about relieving tension as it is about releasing inner beauty. With services from deep-tissue massage to craniosacral therapy, you can show up hunched-over and stressed and leave with a full range of motion, feeling beautiful and calm. If you don’t live near Keep A Breast California headquarters, look for a spa in your area that offers its own variety of
4. And if nothing else this Valentine’s Day, you can just spend some quiet time together and support your local coffeehouse. You know, that one place in town that has real mugs, soothing music, and local band posters on the wall. Bonus points if the place serves organic coffee and pastries. And you want to be romantic, tip the barista and ask him to draw a chocolate syrup heart on top of the foam. Awwww.
5. Glory for Girls products are a great gift for daughters. Glory for Girls is a natural skincare line with all the benefits of natural skincare. The line includes everyday products for face & body, sunscreens, scrubs, as well as solutions to keep skin clear but is completely natural and well packaged… and even Selena Gomez backs it.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Lovers!
Xoxo,
Intern Amy
