NON TOXIC REVOLUTION

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

The girls of KAB served up an organic feast last week. Unfortunately we were all too busy stuffing our faces to bring you any photos of the feast but here are some photos of us picking the produce from out organic garden outside of our office! Included my very favorite meat substitute Quorn cutlets, chopped up with some fresh onions from the garden. Beet salad with fresh beets, goat cheese and walnuts a salad with all the yummy lettuce and funny looking carrots we picked and of course some organic wine.

WHY ORGANIC??
Organic means produced without the use of synthetic fertilizers, bio-engineering, radiation, herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides. Organic farms use soil building programs that enhance soil fertility and promote environmental quality for the future.

Why choose organic?
It reduces your exposure to toxins, and you get more anti-oxioidants.

The bad guys…

Meat, Artificial sweeteners, Dairy, Sugar, Refined Carbohydrates (white bread, pasta, cakes, cookies, crackers)

Instead of meat try tofu, beans, or nuts.

Instead of splenda try stevia or agave exract.

Instead of milk try Soy Milk.

Instead of refined carbs try whole grain versions.

Shea and Shaney Jo grocery shopping at the KAB headquarters

Tomatos, Tomatoes. However you say it… they are always delicious.

Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the squash blossoms.

Shea picked a carrot that looked like a fro-yo.

Shaney digs right in.

The Feast!!

Do you have any organic recipes you’d like to share with us? Leave them in the comments!!

SITP – LA

Erica here from Keep A Breast, bringing you an update on the KAB Shot In The Pit exhibition presented by Fox and Unite the United. We just finished the Los Angeles show that has been bar far my favorite.  We are so thankful to all of the incredible bands that came out for the evening and donated their time to play the benefit show in support of breast cancer awareness.  We had AM Vibe kick off the night, followed by I And The Universe, Parker Case from Say Anything, side project.  Next we had Halos from Orange County followed by Love You Moon, a side project from Matt Embree of RX Bandits. Closing the night were one of my favorites, Good Old War, with members of Days Away.  The Key Club was beautiful that evening, full of breast casts painted by bands I have worked with for the past several years as well as Erin Caruso’s beautiful photographs from the Vans Warped Tour 2008.  We had the whole KAB crew out that evening, along with our volunteer for the evening, Andrea, behind the merch table.
All of the bands involved in the show  were very thankful and grateful to be a part of the entire event. Some of them have had personal experiences with people that the love that have gone through the devastating effects of breast cancer. It was inspiring to have them all voice their thoughts about the topic and their support of our organization. It people like all of these guys and gals that inspired us to create our MFA program and keep educating young people worldwide.
We had all kinds of wonderful people out that evening to support the cause. Jessie and Jarvis from Head Automatica stopped by to check things out as well as Sumner and Julie from the 4Fini/Unite The United family. We also had  some friends from Sargent House, Pure Volume and Buzznet.  I want to send extra thanks to Cathy, Chase and Charlie for all of their help in making this night a success.
We have a couple more shows to go. I’m off to New York City for our event at Angels & Kings this coming Tuesday, Nov. 11th. Then we have our online auction with all of the photographs from all of the wonderful bands as well as breast casts and other autographed memorabilia from November 26th – December 6th.

Thank You Blue Star Body Lounge!!

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

We wanted to throw out an extra special thanks to the Blue Star Body Lounge. Their salon has been supporting KAB for the entire month of October. All the employees have been giving a percentage of their sales to KAB in October including haircuts, massages and eyelash extensions as well as selling tees and taking donations raising a grand total of almost $1000 for Keep A Breast!

They also showed up to our Breast Cancer Awareness 8th Anniversary and gave haircuts and eyelash extensions in the gallery.

A happy customer poses with the whole crew!

Then to top it off they came down and did the hair and makeup for our models the next weekend too for our San Diego’s Finest show.

We can’t thank these ladies enough for not only showing passion for Keep A Breast, donating a portion of their work but also two weekends to help us out!! These ladies are exceptional not only in their skills but also in their kindness.

And I’m not just saying that becuase Amy Jane gave me the hottest eyelash extensions ever.
