San Diego’s Finest Photos!

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

On the 18th we had a HUGE party here at the KAB offices. 50 casts on display from San Diego’s finest, the Fish Joint set up and were rolling free sushi all night, Honest Tea and Stone Brewery flowed freely for guests and some amazing amount of entertainment. We had a fashion show featuring casts, ball gowns from Kites from Carla Manuel, jewelry from Ginger Che and hair pieces from Devora Maximova. The UpStarts played an amazing set – so amazing in fact we have no photos as everyone was too busy rocking out, and to top it off an amazing burlesque show with Mimi Lemeaux.

All photos by the talented Donez photographer extraordinaire.

Artist and Castee Auction Profile David Russell Talbott and Brin Plourde

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Hey everyone, Kimmy here again to give you a little daily insight to our artists and castees!
Today we present Artist David Russell Talbott.

Talbott painted the wonderful Brin Plourde’s cast. Brin is a friend of Amanda’s whom we shared with you yesterday. For Amanda’s birthday she invited friends to a casting party, of which of course Brin said Yes! “My step-mom died of breast cancer and one of my best friends is a five time cancer survivor at 35. She has had breast cancer three times. So this cause is very near to my heart.”

David Russell Talbott’s art harkens back to the golden age of pulp illustration.  Characters reminiscent of those in hardboiled crime fiction fill his one panel stories; boxers, con-artists, hit-men, and b-movie scream queens.  His ongoing American Pulpcore series examines the relationship between society and the media during 1940’s and 1950’s. Talbott has exhibited across the United States and Europe and has been published internationally.  His artwork has been seen in JUXTAPOZ, Sleek Magazine, & San Diego Citybeat. Talbott’s Hollywood Eats Its Own art series, has just been turned into a fully illustrated book, “HOLLYWOOD PULPCORE: Rumors, Death, and Scandal inTinseltown.”

For this cast Talbott went a pit more personal with a piece he calls Spaceboy va al celulas madre. “While I was working on the cast, my mother was having surgery to remove a lump in her breast. Everything turned out fine, but the event inspired me to address the relationship we have with our mothers, and with the world around us.”

Shot In The Pit – CMJ – NYC – The Bronx & Trash Talk

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Hello!

Erica from KAB here! We just kicked off our first show of the traveling photography exhibition, Shot In The Pit presented by Fox and Unite the United alongside the talented Erin Caruso. It was incredible! We are in New York City at this years CMJ. It was a long night but wonderful. There were hundreds of people packed in Fontana’s Bar in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, anxiously awaiting the late night show with Trash Talk and The Bronx! It was great to have The Bronx be a part of this showcase, not only because we love them and they are an amazing group of gentlemen, but we have two beautiful photos of them in this collection that will be auctioned off Novemeber 26- Dec 6th! We are very thankful to have worked with Solid PR, 1000 Knives The Syndicate, Fox & Unite the United to make this show perfection.

sidenote….we got into town and were able to make it to The Syndicate’s pre party for CMJ where the …Trail of the Dead & Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s were playing. It was a great night and really got us going for the rest of the week here in NYC!
